To develop a set of improved decision tools to help business strategists and policy makers assess the effects of the use of modern supply chain strategies (such as horizontal and vertical integration strategies) on sustainability Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including vehicle kilometres, operating costs and fuel consumption.

To develop a generic framework for this purpose within which such decision tools can be embedded.

To test such decision tools in the light of the latest information and communication technology advances, such as ELMs, to enable "end to end" supply chain thinking.
