In this work module, the significant amount of previous research into the sustainability of freight transport and its integration in the wider supply chain has been reviewed, with each academic partner taking responsibility for its own particular fields of expertise.

The module will then start the process of improving our understanding of complex supply chain situations. This will provide a framework summarising the current state of knowledge of the interaction between freight transport and other supply chain activities. This will help us to explore underlying causal relationships and analyse the uncertainties in supply chain management which can lead to ineffective use of transport by industry, with consequential environmental impacts.
